Worcestershire post first win

Worcestershire registered their first Friends Life t20 win of the season following another batting failure by Northamptonshire at New Road. For the third time in four matches the Steelbacks failed to reach 150, and after their latest struggle to 134 for 9, they inevitably paid the price as the Royals strolled home by seven wickets.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan took 3 wickets on that day....

Vincent Barnes declines Bangladesh coaching job

Vincent Barnes has turned down an offer to coach Bangladesh but has been asked to reconsider his decision by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Barnes' contract as South Africa's assistant coach will be terminated at the end of June and he is not part of the revamped national set-up under newly-appointed coach Gary Kirsten.

"I did turn it [Bangladesh job] down, but I have been asked to reconsider," Barnes told ESPNcricinfo.

At a press conference in Johannesburg, Cricket South Africa named Russell Domingo, who coached the Warriors, as assistant to Kirsten, and Allan Donald as the bowling coach. Barnes was offered a role at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria. Gerald Majola, the CSA chief executive, said they were waiting for a response from Barnes.

If Barnes does not reverse his Bangladesh decision, it will be a setback for the BCB, who had said they wereclose to signing him to fill the vacancy created by Jamie Siddons' departure after a disappointing World Cup campaign. Stuart Law, the interim coach of Sri Lanka, was also in the running but there were reports of his chances failing due to a disagreement over conditions with the BCB.

A professional coach is needed for the Bangladesh cricket team

The BCB are in search of a new coach for the Tigers. The search is on. Through the newspapers we have come to know about many candidates for the coaching post for the Tigers; Sourav Ganguly, Waqar Younis and even Inzamam-ul-Haq! The tendency to knock at the doors of the stars has not yet been erased from the unique characters of our BCB bosses even after having the door shut on their face by Lance Klusener.
But let us just have a look at those names. If the BCB really has made a plan to knock at their doors then I must say they are making a big mistake. Sourav Ganguly, though a legend of the game but sadly in the field of coaching he is inexperienced. At least we don’t want to send our boys into labs as a guinea pig.
The name of Waqar Younis is surprising. Has the PCB made plans to break ties with Waqar? Even if the mysterious world of Pakistan cricket breaks ties with Waqar, Pakistan cricket shouldn’t leave Waqar out from any part of its cricketing establishment. Again, Waqar’s approach is better suited for a team like Pakistan and not for Bangladesh. Bangladesh and Pakistan cricket are completely different; as a whole, Pakistan cricket is completely different from the others. Mind you we didn’t have a chummy experience with Mohsin Kamal and Ali Zia.
Inzamam’s name took me to coma. The person who had been the matter of jokes due to lack of sense is on the list to coach a Test side! No doubt Inzamam is a legendary batsman but he lacked serious sense and sensibility during his whole career. And in the later half of his career he mixed religion and cricket awkwardly which led to the downfall of Pakistan cricket. I don’t understand why the BCB has plans for Inzamam? At least we can’t tolerate watching our boys leaving cricket aside and hearing some religious lecture in the wrong way as the Tableeg and Jaamat are trying in Bangladesh! Our boys have trust in the almighty and they do not need to be reminded of that.
For the Bangladesh cricket team a coach with plenty of experience is needed. Our boys are more accustomed to professional coaches and not the inexperienced customers. Gone are the days when a Mohinder Amarnath would come to Dhaka to train us and then suddenly leave without telling anyone anything after gifting a disastrous result. Now we are a Test nation and we demand professional coaches.
There is a high demand for more coaches in every sport from the grassroots through to the elite. Cricket coaches play a vital role in providing athletes with the skills and knowledge needed to develop, improve and succeed.
It is essential that coaches provide people of all ages the best possible sporting experience, which will maximize their enjoyment and ensure their continued participation and development.
A true professional coach has the perfect training in increasing the confidence levels of his men. He has the perfect guess works and he mixes it with modern technologies to bring the best out of his players. He has the skills to assist in the mental, physical and social development of his men. He has the practical understanding of safe and correct techniques with improved communication skills. Men like Dave Whatmore and Bob Woolmer had this and they were not legends of the game.
We can’t deny the fact that Dave Whatmore provided us plenty and Jamie Siddons further lengthened the Whatmore-work to harvest the best results for Bangladesh. And for which a professional coach from Australia or England is an essential.
Rather than knocking at the doors of a Sourav Ganguly it would be better to knock at the doors of Duncan Fletcher or Tom Moody who are true professionals and has plenty of experience on this ground.
Appointing an ex-star cricketer without any professional coaching experience as the coach of ours boys would only be helpful to hit the headlines in the newspapers but the results will not be good. When Mohinder Amarnath was appointed as our coach in 1994 he hit the headlines but his participation with the boys was poor and his works were hardly visible amongst our boys. In the end we lost the ICC trophy miserably and Amarnath vanished without telling anyone anything! A young team needed proper guidance which Jimmy failed to provide. Had there been a professional coach then the results might have been much better.
Just look at Ian Pont, the bowling coach appointed last year for the Tigers. How well he had improved Shafiul and co! Had Lance Klusener been there then I don’t think he could have improved our bowlers that much. But Pont, being a true professional brought the best out of our bowlers. Sadly he had to leave. The BCB should have prolonged the contract not only with Pont but also with the fielding coach.
Finally, hiring ex-cricket stars as coaches who have no experience at all will be disastrous. Provide our boys with a Duncan Fletcher or a Tom Moody.
We hope the BCB bosses get it right.
