Bangladesh-WI 1st Test ends in tame draw

The first of the 2-match Walton Test series between Bangladesh and visiting West Indies ended in a tame draw at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Tuesday. 

It was the sec
ond draw for Bangladesh against the Caribbean in their last seven Test encounters. 

Bangladesh and West Indies played six Tests with Windies winning three, Tigers two and one ending in draw since 2002 after Bangladesh's entry into Test club. 

Chasing a winning target of 226, West Indies started their second innings on Tuesday afternoon and scored 100 for 2 in 22 overs with 15 overs in hands at stumps on the 5th and the last day. 

Debutant Elias Sunny, who took 6 wickets in the first innings, continued to shine brightly in the second, striking early in Windies batting line-up removing opener Kraigg Brathwait, trapped leg before with a duck. 

One down Darren Bravo and two down Fidel Edwards remained unbeaten with 28 and 24 respectively when the bails were drawn. 

Left-arm spinner Elias and all-rounder Shakib bagged 1 wicket apiece, both conceding 34 runs. 

Earlier, resuming their firs innings on overnight score of 144/5, West Indies added 100 more runs before being all out for 244 in 68 overs giving a 106-run first innings lead to the hosts who declared their first inning at 350/9. 

Elias had struck early on Caribbean innings to complete his 5-wicket haul dismissing night watchman Marlon Samuels (17), who scored 24 off 44 balls with 4s before giving a catch to Raqibul Hasan.

Elias grabbed his 6th scalp, that of another night watchman Carlton Baugh, who fell a leg before victim. He scored 30 off 32 balls with boundaries.

Windies skipper Darren Sammy, who hit his maiden Test half century Tuesday, smashed 58 off 43 balls with eight hits to the fences and two big hits before being clean bowled by Shakib.

Shakib, who gave good support to Elias on the day, then sent back to the pavilion Windies tail-enders Ravi Rampaul (8) and Devendra Bisho (0). 

Fidel Edwards (0 n.o) was unbeaten. 

Shakib Al Hasan claimed 3 wickets for 53 runs while Sahadat Hossain Rajib took 1 for 19 runs. 

In reply, Bangladesh declared their second innings at 119 for 3 in 42 overs 5th day, setting 226 runs winning target in maximum 37 overs on the 5th day.
