Bangladesh eves make dream start outplaying Ireland by 82 runs


Bangladesh women's team made a dream start in the International Cricket outplaying Ireland by a huge 82 runs in their inaugural ODI and the 5th place deciding play-off match of ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers at BKSP ground in Savar Saturday, reports UNB.

West Indies team (250/5 in 50) emerged unbeaten champions in the 10-team qualifying round beating Pakistan (120/10 in 37.3) by 130 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur today. 


With the day's feat, Bangladesh Eves team, not only celebrated their first OD1 with a comprehensive victory, but also clinched the 5th place in 10-teamworld cup qualifiers forcing another ODI side Ireland to suffer 2nd consecutive defeat after beating them by 95 runs in group encounters.


In the day's 5th place play-off match, Bangladesh Eves team opened the innings first after winning the toss and made a flying start scoring 113 runs in 30 overs in the opening stand. Finally, Bangladesh gave a challenging total of 210 for 7 in 50 overs for the Irish eves.

Opener Suktara Rahman contributed a half century making 119-ball 53 runs including five fours while Sharmin Akhter Supta, who opened the innings for the first time in the meet, scored 52 runs off 88 balls, featuring six boundaries.

Besides, number six Rumana Ahmed hammered unconquered 36 runs off 31 balls hitting six boundaries, number five Lata Mondal hit 30-ball 27 runs with three fours were the other notable contributors for Bangladesh.

JA Whelan grabbed three wickets for 31 runs while LFM Cullen took two wickets for 34 runs.

Chasing a challenging total, Irish Women's started very cautiously and scored 41 runs in 13 overs in the opening stand, but later they lost wickets on regular intervals and were dismissed for 128 runs in 45.4 overs to concede a humiliating defeat, 2nd in a row against the home side.
