Pakistan eves too good for Bangladesh eves in Women's World Cup Qualifier


Bismah Maroof's all round performance enabled Pakistan off to a flier as they beat host Bangladesh by 73 runs in the Group B inaugural match of the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier-2011 held at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Monday, reports BSS. 

As far as the record is concerned Bangladesh crashed to their fifth defeat in their six encounters with Pakistan. 

Pakistani captain Sana Mir won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite some accurate bowling by Bangladeshi eves Pakistan still managed to score a moderate total of 197 runs for all in stipulated 50 overs. Thanks to a brilliant 79 runs by Bismah Maroof in 106 deliveries with six boundaries that saw Pakistan recover from a staggering start.

Three top orders batsmen-captain Sana Mir (4), opener Qanita Jalil (33) and Nida Dar (15) were back in the pavilion for 56 runs in 16.4 overs.

Bismah Maroof found Javeria Khan who too was in an impressive form to add 78 runs for the 4th wicket partnership to guide their team out from the troubled water from 56 to 134. 

Javeria Khan went to score 30 runs. But despite the good recovery Pakistan tail failed to wag. Khadiza Tul Kubra was the pick of the Bangladeshi bowlers capturing four wickets for 41 runs in 10 overs including the prized scalp of Bismah Maroof. 

Skipper Salma Khatun also bowled economically claiming two wickets for 26 runs in 10 overs with three maidens. 

Bangladesh made a heavy weather chasing a moderate target of 198 runs and lost wickets at regular interval to be finally bowled out for 124 runs in 42.2 overs. 

Opener Ayesha Akhter (19), lower order Lata Mondal (14), number seven Chamely Khatun (14), middle order Farjana Haque (12), opener Panna Ghosh (10) top order Rumana Ahmed (10) were the successful run getters for Bangladesh and the highest score for Bangladesh came from the extras. 

Shukara Rahman (8), Yasmin Boishakhi (6 not out), Jahanara Alam (5), Khadiza Tul Kubra (4), skipper Salma Khatun (1) were the other contributors for Bangladesh. 

Nida Dar was the wrecker in chief for Pakistan with 4 wickets for 29 and was ably supported by Bismah Maroof's 2 wickets for 16 runs. 

Bangladesh will play their next match against Japan at BKSP while Pakistan will face Ireland at Fatullah Stadium, both on Tuesday. 

Another reports: All favourites teams-The Netherlands, West Indies and South Africa women's teams made impressive start to their campaign as they took off to a cruising win in the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifiers in their respective group opening matches at separate city venues Monday. 

Netherlands recorded a six-wicket victory over Zimbabwe at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) ground-2, West Indies inflicted Ireland a humiliating 213 runs defeat at the BKSP ground-3 while South Africa edged past Sri Lanka in thriller by six runs at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah.

Zimbabwe: 145 for all in 49.5 overs, Nyathi 29, Mpofu 21, Lancer 3/34, Bennett 2/11 and Tomlinson 2/34.

Netherlands: 148 for 4 in 25.2 overs, Veringmeier 47, Tomlinson 46n.o, Marange 1/11 and Mazvishaya.

West Indies: 276 for 4 in 50 overs, Taylor 107, Nero 100, McCarthy 1/51 and Joyce 1/60.

Ireland: 63 for all, Garth 24, Joyce 13, Etienne 3/16, SACA King 2/4, Daley 2/14.

South Africa: 114 for all in 37 overs, Firtz 61, Du Preez 14, De Alwis 4/21 and Ravikumar 4/23.

Sri Lanka: 108 for all in 48.2 overs, Dolawatte 28n.o, Mendis 20, Loubser 5/27.
