13th National Cricket League begins Oct 17

The National Cricket League (NCL) 2011-12, country's first class cricket tournament, will begin on October 17, reports UNB.

The decision was taken at a tournament committee meeting of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Tuesday.

The meeting also decided that this year's competition will be an 8-team event with the fresh inclusion of Rangpur Division and Dhaka Metropolis in addition to six divisional teams - Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet.

The NCL 2011-12 will follow the same format as its previous edition and the matches will be played at neutral venues.

It is mandatory for BCB-contracted cricketers to appear in the NCL unless they have any international commitments.

There will be a list of 32 icon players named by national selectors. These players will be picked from cricketers who have represented the National Team and A Team. Each team will be eligible to recruit maximum four icon players.

In order to raise the level of competitiveness in NCL, a team can register maximum three foreign players but will be allowed to field only one such player in a match. The foreign cricketers will have to be a current first class player.

The national selectors will select the teams for Dhaka Division and Dhaka Metropolis while other divisional teams will be selected by the divisional coaches.
