The 13th version of the four-day National Cricket League 2011-12, the country's lone first class cricket tournament, begins today (Monday) at different venues with four matches taking place in the opening round, reports UNB.

Eight teams are taking part for the first time in this year's longer version National Cricket League with the fresh inclusion of Rangpur Division and Dhaka Metropolis alongside the six divisional teams --Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet.

The league will be held in two phases, with the teams playing each other once in the first phase and the top four teams facing off in the second phase on round robin league basis. Later, the two top teams will play in the final.

Each team is eligible to recruit a maximum of four players from the list of 32 icon players, named by the national selectors.
