Naeem ton goes in vain as Nat'l Team beat Bangladesh A by 36 runs

All rounder Naeem Islam's unconquered ton went in vain as Bangladesh National Team recorded their second successive win with a 36 runs victory over Bangladesh A team in the BCB Cup at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city Thursday, reports UNB.

Naeem Islam smashed 101 runs off 99 balls with seven fours and a six to remain unbeaten till the end of the innings as Bangladesh A team were restricted at 234 for 8 in 39 overs after chasing the huge target of 311 for 9 in stipulated 50 overs set by the national side. The match was later reduced to 39 overs due to wet outfield following abrupt rain.

Opener Junaid Siddique (45) opened with Zahirul Islam (7), but Bangladesh A team faced early batting jolt in the face of National Team's disciplined bowling aggression, especially pacer Rubel Hossain. Bangladesh A team basically threw their wicket in regular interval to accelerate the run rate.

All rounder Mahmudullah Riad (30) and number nine batsman Elias Sunny (15) were the other notable scorers for Bangladesh A team.

Rubel Hossain scalped three wickets conceding 38 runs while Abdur Razzak bagged two wickets for 44.

Earlier, riding on opener Tamim Iqbal and Shahriar Nafees's solid opening partnership, National Team amassed a challenging total in front of Bangladesh A team after they were sent to bat first.

Tamim and Nafees contributed 118 runs in the opening stand. Tamim scored 65 runs off 67 balls with 10 fours while Nafees made 50 runs off 76 balls with seven fours and a six.

After the departure of opener duo, one down Mohammad Ashraful pairing with wicket keeper Mushfiqur Rahim contributed another 130 runs partnership in the third wicket stand.

Ashraful hammered 83 runs off 72 balls with 12 fours and a six while Rahim added 63 runs off 61 balls with four fours and a six.

Mahmudullah Riyad was expensive but most successful bowler for Bangladesh A team taking four wickets for 75 runs while Elias Sunny grabbed three wickets for 33 runs and pacer Shahadat Hossain took two wickets for 48 runs.

Naeem Islam of Bangladesh A team was adjudged the player of the match.

Earlier, National Team beat Academy Team by six wickets while Bangladesh A team defeated Academy Team by 56 runs, in both their respective opening matches.

Today’s (Friday's) match: Bangladesh A team vs Academy Team at the same venue.
