Edwards send Bangladesh reeling at 204 for seven

Kirk Edwards and Fidel Edwards with their respective feats made sure West Indies are in commanding position, things could have been worst for Bangladesh as Shakib Al Hasan and Naeem Islam pulled their side from a precarious position of 59 for 5 to recover 204 for 7 at stumps on day two of the second Test match at Sher-e Bangla National Cricket Stadium here Sunday, reports BSS.

Kirk Edwards slammed his second century as he scored a splendid 121 while Fidel Edwards with 11th five-wicket haul in Test cricket blew away any hope of Tigers taking lead in the first innings.

Earlier, West Indies resuming at overnight 253 for 5 batted with confidence and their number three batsman Kirk Edwards was in supreme touch as his brilliant 121 and Marvin Samuels with 48 took their total to 319 for 6 but Bangladesh fought back to send them crashing to 355 all out.

The bowler who made sure that the West Indies tail does not wag was none other the world number one all rounder Shakib Al Hasan who claimed his eight five-wicket haul in Test cricket as he finished with a flattering figure of 5 for 63 as Caribbean's were bowled for 355 in 126.4 overs.

Bangladesh in reply made a disastrous start as they found themselves staggering at 59 for 5 but Shakib with a superb 73 and Naeem Islam with 45 stopped the rot with a determined 84 priceless runs for the sixth wicket stand.

Naeem carry on his good work to add another valuable 52 runs for the seventh wicket stand.

Tamim Iqbal with 14 off 10 balls, Shahriar Nafees with 7 and Imrul Kayes 29 off 27 balls all player as if they were playing Twenty20 cricket.

Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim and Raqibul failed to open their account.

Shakib Al Hasan with superb 73 off 74 balls was studded with nine boundaries along with Naeem 45 and later Nasir Hossain with unbeaten 34 did exceptionally well to drag Bangladesh out of the doldrums, but despite his efforts, Tigers are still far away from the safety harbour.

The pick of the West Indies bowlers was Fidel Edwards whose superb spell forced Bangladesh to lose their five prized wickets with only 59 on the board.

Edward troubled almost most of the local batsmen with his brisk pace and bounce and sometimes his Yorkers saw most of the Bangladesh batsmen at sea.
