BD brighten chance for ODI status in Women's Cricket
Khadiza Tul Kubra took 6 for 32 in Bangladesh's win over Ireland.

Hosts Bangladesh brightened their chance for One Day International (ODI) status in Women's Cricket crushing five World Cup playing Irish eves by 95 runs in a vital group match of the ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier'2011 at the BKSP in Savar Friday, reports UNB.

With the day's creditable victory, Bangladesh not only assured their 3rd place in the five-team Group B ahead of Ireland and Japan, but also posed a threat to Ireland's one-day status gained in 1987.

This was the second successive victory for Bangladesh in their 3rd group outings after crushing Japan by 10 wickets. The hosts will play group leader West Indies in the remaining group match on Sunday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

In the day's match, Bangladesh batted first after winning the toss and scored a comfortable 209 runs for 7 in stipulated 50 overs with skipper Salma Khatun playing a captain's innings of 73 runs off 121 balls that featured four boundaries.

After losing two quick wickets of opener Ayesha Akhter (4) and one down Farjana Haque (14) for 38 runs in 11.2 overs, another opener Shuktara Rahman pairing with captain Salma Khatun gave a good foundation to the innings scoring 86 runs in the 3rd wicket.

Shuktara contributed 47 runs off 87 balls with six fours, Lata Mondal hammered 31 runs off 28 balls with four fours and Chamely Khatun made 16-ball 13 runs.

AJ Kenealy took two wickets for 46 runs in 10 overs. Five Bangladesh wickets of Farjana Haque, Salma Khatun, Lata Mondal, Panna Ghosh and Rumana Ahmed were victims of run out.

In reply, experienced Irish eves were forced to fold their innings at 114 in 36.5 overs against devastating bowling by spinner Khadiza Tul Kubra.

Among the Irish, only opener Joyce (44), one down JA Whelan (20), L Delany (11) and KJ Grath (not out 10) reached double figures.

Khadiza Tul Kubra, who grabbed six wickets for 32 runs in her 10-over spell with a maiden, was adjudged player of the match.

Panna Ghosh and Rumana Ahmed claimed one wicket each both conceding 14 runs.
